China's clothing exports in July 2024 saw a year-on-year decrease.

The latest data released by the General Administration of Customs on August 7 shows that textile and garment exports in July fell unexpectedly sharply despite a low base. In US dollar terms, textile and garment exports in July amounted to US\$26.8 billion, turning from positive to negative growth year-on-year, decreasing by 0.5%. The negative growth in exports was mainly dragged down by the decline in garment exports, with garment exports declining by 3.6% year-on-year in July, while textile exports increased by 4% year-on-year. Preliminary analysis shows that the main reason for the decline in garment exports is the rapid decline in export prices. From January to July, cumulative textile and garment exports increased by 1.1% year-on-year, with textile exports increasing by 3.3% and garment exports declining by 0.8%.
