Growth in exports of Chinese sewing machinery products in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year


According to data from the General Administration of Customs, from January to June 2024, China's cumulative exports of sewing machinery products reached US\u00241.608 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.15%. Among them, the export volume of industrial sewing machines was 2.28 million units, with export value of US\u0024730 million, a year-on-year increase of 1.49% and 5.28% respectively; the export volume of embroidery machines was 52,000 units, with export value of US\u0024288 million, a year-on-year increase of 35.59% and 28.11% respectively; the export volume of pre- and post-sewing equipment was 870,000 units, with export value of US\u0024235 million, a year-on-year increase of 32.31% and 13.69% respectively. Exports of major product categories in the industry showed a growth trend.
In June, China's exports of sewing machinery products reached US\u0024310 million, a year-on-year increase of 24.63% and a month-on-month increase of 2.72%. Among them, the export volume of industrial sewing machines was nearly 500,000 units, with export value of US\u0024146 million, a year-on-year increase of 23.78% and 30.13% respectively, and a month-on-month increase of 19.73% and 7.83% respectively; the export volume of embroidery machines was more than 9,000 units, with export value of 0.57 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 27.33% and 38.17% respectively, and a month-on-month increase of 6.31% in export value. In June, the year-on-year growth trend in the export volume and value of major product categories in the industry was evident.

1) This week's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (NPC & CPPCC) in China boosted market expectations for steady growth. In February, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for manufacturing stood at 50.2%, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a significant improvement in the manufacturing sector.


In 2024, China's exports of dyed and printed fabrics to Vietnam and Bangladesh increased significantly.


In 2024, China's dyeing industry saw rapid export growth to ASEAN and RCEP member countries, exceeding the overall export growth rate. However, this growth was accompanied by a decline in prices. From January to December, China's exports of eight major dyeing products to ASEAN totaled 7.908 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 12.14%, 4.61 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate, accounting for 23.58% of total exports. The average export price was US\$1.19 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.75%, 0.64 percentage points lower than the overall decline. Exports to RCEP member countries totaled 8.431 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.35%, 3.82 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate. The average export price was US\$1.17 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79%, 0.60 percentage points lower than the overall decline.
