The growth rate of fabric exports from January to June 2024 exceeded that of the textile and apparel industry.


From January to June, textile and apparel exports reached US$143.24 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.6%. Textile exports reached US$69.38 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%; apparel exports reached US$73.86 billion, remaining flat year-on-year. Among the four major categories of goods, yarn exports decreased by 1.7%, fabric exports increased by 3.8%; and home textiles and knitted and woven apparel exports increased by 3.7% and 0.3% respectively.
Influenced by the recovery of demand in Europe and the United States, our fabric exports to Southeast Asia have resumed growth.
Asia is the main market for our fabric exports. From January to June 2024, our cumulative fabric exports to Asian countries reached US$22.74 billion, accounting for 68.1% of total fabric exports. Among the top ten target markets, Asian markets account for seven seats. Vietnam, as the largest single market for our fabric exports, accounts for 17.1% of our global fabric exports, with exports amounting to US$5.69 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13.1%.
From January to June, among the top ten markets, exports to Myanmar, Nigeria, and Mexico decreased by 4.3%, 16.5%, and 5.1% respectively. The remaining countries maintained growth, with significant growth in exports to Bangladesh, Cambodia, and the UAE, at 18.5%, 33.6%, and 17.1% respectively.
Exports of chemical fiber woven fabrics rebounded, while cotton fabric exports declined.
From the perspective of major product categories, from January to June, exports of chemical fiber woven fabrics and cotton fabrics amounted to US$14.43 billion and US$4.71 billion respectively, with increases of 2.2% and decreases of 5.2% respectively. Silk woven fabric exports amounted to US$160 million, down 16.5%; wool and animal hair woven fabric exports amounted to US$160 million, up 1.5%.
Fabric exports from the top five exporting provinces and cities all increased except for Shandong.
The Southeast coastal region is the main area for fabric exports. Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Fujian, and Shandong, the top five exporting provinces, account for over 85% of the total. Exports from all provinces and cities except Shandong increased, with Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Fujian experiencing export growth rates of 3.8%, 11.5%, 12.2%, and 0.9% respectively, while Shandong experienced a year-on-year decrease of 11.7%.

1) This week's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (NPC & CPPCC) in China boosted market expectations for steady growth. In February, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for manufacturing stood at 50.2%, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a significant improvement in the manufacturing sector.


In 2024, China's exports of dyed and printed fabrics to Vietnam and Bangladesh increased significantly.


In 2024, China's dyeing industry saw rapid export growth to ASEAN and RCEP member countries, exceeding the overall export growth rate. However, this growth was accompanied by a decline in prices. From January to December, China's exports of eight major dyeing products to ASEAN totaled 7.908 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 12.14%, 4.61 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate, accounting for 23.58% of total exports. The average export price was US\$1.19 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.75%, 0.64 percentage points lower than the overall decline. Exports to RCEP member countries totaled 8.431 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.35%, 3.82 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate. The average export price was US\$1.17 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79%, 0.60 percentage points lower than the overall decline.
