India's textile and apparel exports declined in November 2022


After a continuous decline in previous months, India's garment exports in November 2022 increased by 11.70% year-on-year, reaching US\$1.19809 billion. However, textile exports in November remained in negative territory, and cumulative textile and garment exports from April to November 2022 also showed a downward trend.
 
Compared to US\$2.01041 billion in November 2021, India's textile exports in November 2022 decreased by 30.11% to US\$1.405 billion. Exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, handloom products, etc., in November this year dropped to US\$803.17 million from US\$1.22669 billion in November last year.
 
According to an analysis by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CITI) based on data released by the council, shipments of man-made yarn, fabrics, made-ups, etc. decreased from US\$432 million to US\$355.37 million, and carpet exports fell from US\$148.68 million to US\$115.06 million, according to the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S), Ministry of Commerce.
 
Compared to November 2021, the cumulative exports of textiles and garments in November 2022 decreased by 15.57%. Data shows that shipments during the reporting period decreased from US\$3.08305 billion to US\$2.60309 billion. From April to November 2022, textile exports fell by 21.93% year-on-year to US\$12.75427 billion, while garment exports grew by 7.22% to US\$10.35836 billion.

In February, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for manufacturing stood at 50.2%, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a significant improvement in the manufacturing sector.

In 2024, China's dyeing industry saw rapid export growth to ASEAN and RCEP member countries, exceeding the overall export growth rate. However, this growth was accompanied by a decline in prices. From January to December, China's exports of eight major dyeing products to ASEAN totaled 7.908 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 12.14%, 4.61 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate, accounting for 23.58% of total exports. The average export price was US\$1.19 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.75%, 0.64 percentage points lower than the overall decline. Exports to RCEP member countries totaled 8.431 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.35%, 3.82 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate. The average export price was US\$1.17 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79%, 0.60 percentage points lower than the overall decline.
