In 2020, China's clothing exports decreased by 6% year-on-year, while textile exports increased by 30%.


In 2020, with the strong support of the "stabilizing foreign trade" policy and the joint efforts of all foreign trade enterprises, China's textile and apparel industry withstood the huge impact of the epidemic, achieving rapid export growth throughout the year and becoming an important driving force for the growth of national goods trade.
  Data released by the General Administration of Customs on January 14 shows that in 2020, China's textile and apparel exports totaled US$2912.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.5% compared to 2019, boosting the overall export growth of national goods trade by 1 percentage point. Among them, textile exports have grown for nine consecutive months since April, and apparel exports have reversed since August, achieving growth for five consecutive months.
  1. Total import and export value of national goods trade in RMB:
  From January to December 2020, the total import and export value of goods trade was 32.1 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.9% year-on-year (the same below), of which exports were 17.9 trillion yuan, an increase of 4%, and imports were 14.2 trillion yuan, a decrease of 0.7%.
  In December, foreign trade imports and exports totaled 3.2 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.9%, of which exports were 1.85 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.9%, and imports were 1.34 trillion yuan, a decrease of 0.2%.
 
  2. Total import and export value of national goods trade in US dollars:
  From January to December 2020, the total import and export value of goods trade was US$4.64 trillion, an increase of 1.5% year-on-year, of which exports were US$2.59 trillion, an increase of 3.6%, and imports were US$2.05 trillion, a decrease of 1.1%.
  In December, foreign trade imports and exports totaled US$4856.8 billion, an increase of 12.9%, of which exports were US$2819.3 billion, an increase of 18.1%, and imports were US$2037.5 billion, an increase of 6.5%.
 
  3. Textile and apparel exports in RMB:
  From January to December 2020, textile and apparel exports totaled 20215.8 billion yuan, an increase of 10.2%, of which textile exports were 10695.5 billion yuan, an increase of 30.4%, and apparel exports were 9520.3 billion yuan, a decrease of 6%.
  In December, textile and apparel exports were 1726.7 billion yuan, a decrease of 1.5%, of which textile exports were 810.4 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7%, and apparel exports were 916.3 billion yuan, a decrease of 6.4%.
 
  4. Textile and apparel exports in US dollars:
  From January to December 2020, textile and apparel exports totaled US$2912.1 billion, an increase of 9.5%, of which textile exports were US$1538.3 billion, an increase of 29.2%, and apparel exports were US$1373.8 billion, a decrease of 6.4%.
  In December, textile and apparel exports totaled US$26.2 billion, an increase of 7.2%, of which textile exports were US$12.29 billion, an increase of 12.7%, and apparel exports were US$13.91 billion, an increase of 2.7%

In February, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for manufacturing stood at 50.2%, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a significant improvement in the manufacturing sector.


In 2024, China's exports of dyed and printed fabrics to Vietnam and Bangladesh increased significantly.


In 2024, China's dyeing industry saw rapid export growth to ASEAN and RCEP member countries, exceeding the overall export growth rate. However, this growth was accompanied by a decline in prices. From January to December, China's exports of eight major dyeing products to ASEAN totaled 7.908 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 12.14%, 4.61 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate, accounting for 23.58% of total exports. The average export price was US\$1.19 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.75%, 0.64 percentage points lower than the overall decline. Exports to RCEP member countries totaled 8.431 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.35%, 3.82 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate. The average export price was US\$1.17 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79%, 0.60 percentage points lower than the overall decline.
