China's home textile exports maintained an upward trend in 2024

According to incomplete statistics, global imports of major home textile markets totaled US\$44.62 billion this year, down 8.1% year-on-year, indicating significant fluctuations in international market demand. Against this backdrop, China's home textile exports maintained a good growth momentum from January to December, with a total export value of US\$34.44 billion, up 5.4% year-on-year, accounting for 11.4% of the country's total textile and apparel exports, a slight increase in market share. This year, the home textile industry has shown strong performance among the various sub-sectors of China's textile and apparel exports, with a growth rate 2.6 percentage points higher than the national average for the same period.
Bedding, carpets, blankets, kitchen and bath textiles, curtains, towels, and tablecloths are the main export categories for China's home textiles. From January to December, except for a significant decline in towel exports and basically flat exports of blankets, other products saw positive growth to varying degrees. Specifically, bedding exports reached US\$14.69 billion, up 6.3%; carpet exports reached US\$4.39 billion, up 9.6%; blanket exports reached US\$4.4 billion, down 0.02%; kitchen and bath textile exports reached US\$3.22 billion, up 10.3%; curtain exports reached US\$3.04 billion, up 8.4%; tablecloth exports reached US\$0.87 billion, up 10.7%; and other products exports reached US\$1.89 billion, up 6.2%.
From January to December, towel exports amounted to US\$1.95 billion, a significant decrease of 10.6%. The main reasons are: firstly, exports to ASEAN, the largest market, continued to decline sharply by 24%, with exports to Thailand and the Philippines falling by 33.7% and 26.9% respectively; and secondly, exports to Russia also plummeted by 46.7%.
