Knitwear production in Jan-Sept 2024 grew year-on-year
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to September 2024, the operating revenue of large-scale knitting enterprises increased by 2.12% year-on-year, showing a rebound from last year, but the growth rate decreased by 1.08 percentage points compared to the first half of the year; total assets have continued to grow since the beginning of the year, increasing by 4.11% year-on-year, and the growth rate increased by 0.51 percentage points compared to the first half of the year.
From the perspective of two major product categories, from January to September, the operating revenue of large-scale knitting fabric enterprises increased by 3.17% year-on-year, with a decrease of 1.34 percentage points compared to the first half of the year; total assets increased by 5.05% year-on-year, with a growth rate increase of 1.06 percentage points compared to the first half of the year. From January to September, the operating revenue of large-scale knitting apparel enterprises increased by 1.51% year-on-year, with a decrease of 0.93 percentage points compared to the first half of the year; total assets increased by 3.57% year-on-year, with a growth rate increase of 0.19 percentage points compared to the first half of the year.
In terms of output, from January to September this year, China's clothing output increased by 4.41% year-on-year, of which knitted clothing output increased by 7.45% year-on-year. Knitted clothing accounted for 68.82% of the total clothing output, and its proportion has remained above 68% since the beginning of the year, continuing a stable growth trend. This trend reflects the changes in consumer habits and the continuous innovation of consumption scenarios, further promoting the development and application level of knitted clothing products.

1) This week's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (NPC & CPPCC) in China boosted market expectations for steady growth. In February, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for manufacturing stood at 50.2%, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a significant improvement in the manufacturing sector.
In 2024, China's dyeing industry saw rapid export growth to ASEAN and RCEP member countries, exceeding the overall export growth rate. However, this growth was accompanied by a decline in prices. From January to December, China's exports of eight major dyeing products to ASEAN totaled 7.908 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 12.14%, 4.61 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate, accounting for 23.58% of total exports. The average export price was US\$1.19 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.75%, 0.64 percentage points lower than the overall decline. Exports to RCEP member countries totaled 8.431 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.35%, 3.82 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate. The average export price was US\$1.17 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79%, 0.60 percentage points lower than the overall decline.
