China's fabric exports to Southeast Asia rebounded in the first nine months of 2024


Fabric exports continued to grow from January to September 2024

From January to September, textile and apparel exports totaled US$222.87 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.6%; textile exports reached US$104.84 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.0%; and apparel exports reached US$118.38 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.3%. Among the four major categories, yarn exports decreased by 1.7%, fabric exports increased by 3.6%, home textiles increased by 3.0%, and knitted and woven apparel exports decreased by 1.3%.

 

Affected by the recovery of demand in Europe and the United States, my country's fabric exports to Southeast Asia have resumed growth

Asia is the main market for my country's fabric exports. From January to September 2024, my country's cumulative fabric exports to Asian countries reached US$33.83 billion, accounting for 67.5% of total fabric exports. Among the top ten export markets, Asian markets accounted for seven seats. Vietnam, as the largest single market for my country's fabric exports, accounted for 16.8% of my country's global fabric exports, with exports reaching US$8.39 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12.0%.

 

From January to September, among the top ten markets, exports to Myanmar, Nigeria, and Mexico decreased by 5.4%, 15.7%, and 8.8%, respectively, while other countries maintained growth. Among them, exports to Bangladesh, Cambodia, and the UAE showed significant growth, increasing by 18.8%, 31.3%, and 16.3%, respectively.

1) This week's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (NPC & CPPCC) in China boosted market expectations for steady growth. In February, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for manufacturing stood at 50.2%, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a significant improvement in the manufacturing sector.


In 2024, China's exports of dyed and printed fabrics to Vietnam and Bangladesh increased significantly.


In 2024, China's dyeing industry saw rapid export growth to ASEAN and RCEP member countries, exceeding the overall export growth rate. However, this growth was accompanied by a decline in prices. From January to December, China's exports of eight major dyeing products to ASEAN totaled 7.908 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 12.14%, 4.61 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate, accounting for 23.58% of total exports. The average export price was US\$1.19 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.75%, 0.64 percentage points lower than the overall decline. Exports to RCEP member countries totaled 8.431 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.35%, 3.82 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate. The average export price was US\$1.17 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79%, 0.60 percentage points lower than the overall decline.
