Year-on-year growth of Chinese home textile exports from January to September 2024
From January to September this year, China's home textile exports totaled US\$25.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.7%, accounting for 11.3% of the country's total textile and apparel exports. Since the beginning of this year, the home textile industry has shown the strongest performance among the various sub-sectors of China's textile and apparel exports, with a growth rate 3.1 percentage points higher than the national average for textile and apparel exports during the same period.
Bedding, carpets, blankets, kitchen and bathroom textiles, curtains, towels, and tablecloths are the main sub-categories of China's home textile exports. In the first nine months, except for a significant decline in towel exports and a slight decrease in blanket exports, other products saw positive growth to varying degrees. Specifically, bedding exports reached US\$10.78 billion, up 4.6%; carpet exports reached US\$3.19 billion, up 7.4%; blanket exports reached US\$3.1 billion, down 0.8%; kitchen and bathroom textile exports reached US\$2.38 billion, up 8.4%; curtain exports reached US\$2.25 billion, up 7.2%; tablecloth exports reached US\$0.66 billion, up 9.6%; and other products exports reached US\$1.39 billion, up 5.3%.
In the first three quarters, towel exports amounted to US\$1.44 billion, a significant decrease of 14%. The main reasons are: firstly, a continued sharp decline of 30% in exports to ASEAN, the largest market, with exports to Thailand and the Philippines falling by 40.2% and 38.3% respectively; and secondly, a sharp drop of 44.4% in exports to Russia.
