China's cotton cloth exports decreased from January to August 2024

Driven by recovering demand from Europe and the US, my fabric exports to Southeast Asia have resumed growth.

Asia is the main market for my fabric exports. From January to August 2024, my cumulative fabric exports to Asian countries reached US$30.12 billion, accounting for 67.4% of total fabric exports. Among the top ten export markets, Asian markets accounted for seven.

From January to August, exports to Myanmar, Nigeria, and Mexico among the top ten markets decreased by 4.3%, 17.8%, and 6.9% respectively, while the rest maintained growth. Among them, exports to Bangladesh, Cambodia, and the UAE showed significant growth, increasing by 19.4%, 33.9%, and 15.7% respectively.

Exports of chemical fiber woven fabrics rebounded, while cotton fabric exports declined.

In terms of major product categories, from January to August, exports of chemical fiber woven fabrics and cotton fabrics totaled US$19.1 billion and US$6.22 billion respectively, with a growth of 2.0% and a decline of 5.0% respectively. Exports of silk woven fabrics amounted to US$0.21 billion, down 16.8%; exports of wool and animal hair woven fabrics amounted to US$0.22 billion, up 5.6%.

Among the top five exporting provinces and cities, fabric exports from Shandong and Fujian decreased.

The Southeast coastal region is the main area for fabric exports. Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Fujian, and Shandong, the top five exporting provinces, account for over 85% of the total. Exports from Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Guangdong increased by 4.8%, 12.6%, and 13.8% respectively, while Shandong and Fujian decreased by 11.6% and 4.1% respectively.
