China's textile and apparel exports saw a month-on-month improvement in December 2023


According to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs, in December, textile and apparel exports totaled US\$25.27 billion, marking a return to positive growth after seven months, with a year-on-year increase of 2.6% and a month-on-month increase of 6.8%. Exports are gradually recovering and stabilizing. Textile exports increased by 3.5% year-on-year, while apparel exports increased by 1.9%.
Textile and apparel exports in RMB: From January to December 2023, cumulative textile and apparel exports reached RMB 2066.03 billion, down 2.9% year-on-year. Textile exports were RMB 945.41 billion, down 3.1%, while apparel exports were RMB 1120.62 billion, down 2.8%.
In December, textile and apparel exports reached RMB 181.19 billion, up 5.5% year-on-year and 6.7% month-on-month. Textile exports reached RMB 80.35 billion, up 6.4% and 0.7% respectively, while apparel exports reached RMB 100.84 billion, up 4.7% and 12% respectively.
Textile and apparel exports in US dollars: From January to December 2023, cumulative textile and apparel exports reached US\$293.64 billion, down 8.1%. Textile exports were US\$134.5 billion, down 8.3%, while apparel exports were US\$159.14 billion, down 7.8%.
In December, textile and apparel exports totaled US\$25.27 billion, up 2.6% and 6.8% respectively. Textile exports were US\$11.21 billion, up 3.5% and 0.8% respectively, while apparel exports were US\$14.07 billion, up 1.9% and 12.1% respectively.

In 2024, China's dyeing industry saw rapid export growth to ASEAN and RCEP member countries, exceeding the overall export growth rate. However, this growth was accompanied by a decline in prices. From January to December, China's exports of eight major dyeing products to ASEAN totaled 7.908 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 12.14%, 4.61 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate, accounting for 23.58% of total exports. The average export price was US\$1.19 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.75%, 0.64 percentage points lower than the overall decline. Exports to RCEP member countries totaled 8.431 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.35%, 3.82 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate. The average export price was US\$1.17 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79%, 0.60 percentage points lower than the overall decline.
