China's terry cloth exports significantly decreased from January to November 2023

In the first 11 months of this year, China's household textile exports stabilized and rebounded, reaching a total of US\$300.9 billion. This represents a slight decrease of only 0.2% year-on-year, and a 17.3% increase compared to the same period in 2019 before the pandemic. Against the backdrop of a general weakening in textile and apparel exports this year, home textiles have shown the most robust export performance among all major textile and apparel categories. Since August, there have been three months of year-on-year positive growth in monthly exports, which is quite an achievement. Exports to traditional markets such as the US and Europe have gradually recovered, while exports to emerging markets have remained stable, further establishing a trend of stabilization.
From January to November, except for a significant decline in towel exports, other major product categories showed positive growth or a small decline. Specifically, bedding exports reached US\$127.2 billion, down 1.5% year-on-year; blanket exports reached US\$40.8 billion, down 0.3%; carpet exports reached US\$36.6 billion, up 4.6%; bathroom and kitchen textile exports reached US\$26.7 billion, up 8.4%; curtain exports reached US\$25.9 billion, down 1.6%; towel exports reached US\$20.1 billion, down 7.8%; tablecloth exports reached US\$7.3 billion, up 3.8%; and other products exports reached US\$16.3 billion, down 2.7%.
The main reason for the decline in towel exports is a significant drop of 20.3% in exports to ASEAN, China's largest export market for towels. Specifically, exports to Thailand decreased by 24.3%, and exports to the Philippines decreased by 32.6%.
