China's textile exports declined again in October 2023.


Following a slight increase in August and September, China's home textile exports declined again in October, falling by 3%. Export value dropped from US$3.13 billion in September to US$2.81 billion. From January to October, China's cumulative home textile exports reached US$27.33 billion, a slight decrease of 0.5%, with the cumulative decrease expanding by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous month.
 
Among major product categories, carpets, kitchenware, and tablecloths maintained positive growth in cumulative exports. Specifically, carpet exports reached US$3.32 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.4%; kitchenware exports reached US$2.43 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9%; and tablecloth exports reached US$0.67 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%. In addition, bedding exports amounted to US$11.57 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.8%; towel exports amounted to US$1.84 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 7.9%; and blankets, curtains, and other decorative products continued to decline, with decreases of 0.9%, 2.1%, and 3.2%, respectively, all showing a smaller decrease compared to the previous month.
 
China's top four export markets for home textiles are the United States, ASEAN, the European Union, and Japan. From January to October, exports to the United States reached US$8.65 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.5%, with the cumulative decrease narrowing by 2.7 percentage points compared to the previous month; exports to ASEAN reached US$3.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.5%, with the cumulative growth rate slowing by 5 percentage points compared to the previous month; exports to the European Union reached US$3.35 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 5%, narrowing by 1.6 percentage points compared to the previous month; exports to Japan reached US$2.17 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 12.8%, expanding by 1.6 percentage points compared to the previous month; and exports to Australia reached US$0.98 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 6.9%, with the decrease narrowing by 1.4 percentage points.
From January to October, exports to countries along the Belt and Road reached US$7.43 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.9%. Exports to the six GCC countries reached US$1.21 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 3.3%; exports to the five Central Asian countries reached US$0.68 billion, maintaining a high growth rate of 46.1%; exports to Africa reached US$1.17 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.1%; and exports to Latin America reached US$1.39 billion, an increase of 6.3%.

1) This week's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (NPC & CPPCC) in China boosted market expectations for steady growth. In February, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for manufacturing stood at 50.2%, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a significant improvement in the manufacturing sector.


In 2024, China's exports of dyed and printed fabrics to Vietnam and Bangladesh increased significantly.


In 2024, China's dyeing industry saw rapid export growth to ASEAN and RCEP member countries, exceeding the overall export growth rate. However, this growth was accompanied by a decline in prices. From January to December, China's exports of eight major dyeing products to ASEAN totaled 7.908 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 12.14%, 4.61 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate, accounting for 23.58% of total exports. The average export price was US\$1.19 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.75%, 0.64 percentage points lower than the overall decline. Exports to RCEP member countries totaled 8.431 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.35%, 3.82 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate. The average export price was US\$1.17 per meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79%, 0.60 percentage points lower than the overall decline.
